Indonesia's Shift in Locations; Lombok & Islands Booming

We’ve noticed a major shift in Indonesia’s travel trends. Bali, especially the main tourist hubs, has become significantly more expensive, and many travellers are no longer as interested in visiting those areas. While Uluwatu and Ubud still remain popular for their culture and scenery, travellers are increasingly choosing alternative destinations. Many now fly into Bali as a transit point before heading to Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Penida, or even flying from Denpasar to Lombok. Others are venturing further to the Gili Islands or exploring Komodo, where the experience feels more authentic, less crowded, and often far better value for money.

Lombok is definitely a destination on the rise, and the nearby Gili Islands are following closely behind. The Gilis are only a short boat ride from Lombok and offer stunning beaches, crystal-clear water, and laid-back island vibes that many travellers are now choosing over busy Bali hubs. Lombok itself is also extremely accessible—just a 50-minute flight from Bali—making it an easy and appealing alternative for travellers looking for beautiful scenery, better value, and more authentic experiences.

Lombok and the Gili Islands are quickly winning over travellers thanks to their quieter, more relaxed atmosphere compared to Bali. The Gilis, in particular, have no cars or motorbikes, creating a peaceful island vibe. Lombok is home to pristine beaches, stunning waterfalls, and the iconic Mount Rinjani volcano, while the Gili Islands are famous for crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and idyllic island life. On top of that, accommodation, dining, and activities are generally more affordable than in Bali, giving travellers excellent value for money.

Nusa Lembongan has become an increasingly popular destination, and it’s easy to see why. The island offers a peaceful escape from the crowds, yet it’s bursting with lush landscapes, stunning beaches, and crystal-clear waters. Charming coffee shops, boutique eateries, and local restaurants add to its relaxed, welcoming vibe, making it perfect for travellers looking to unwind while still enjoying a vibrant atmosphere.

Similarly, Nusa Penida is drawing more attention for its dramatic cliffs, pristine beaches, and natural wonders. It’s ideal for adventure seekers and nature lovers, offering incredible viewpoints, snorkeling spots, and a more untouched feel compared to the busier tourist hubs. Together, these islands provide the perfect balance of relaxation and exploration, making them must-visit alternatives to the crowded parts of Bali.

The Uprise of South Korea

We’ve observed a major shift in global tourism patterns, with South Korea rapidly emerging as one of the most in-demand destinations in Asia. As Japan faces unprecedented visitor numbers—resulting in crowded attractions, higher prices, and strained infrastructure—many travelers are actively seeking alternatives that offer a similar blend of culture, convenience, and modernity.

South Korea naturally fills this gap. The country shares many of the qualities that make Japan popular—efficient public transportation, rich cultural heritage, cutting-edge cities, and world-class cuisine—yet delivers them in a more spacious, accessible, and less saturated environment.

Beyond being an alternative, South Korea has also grown into a trendsetter in its own right. K-culture continues to dominate globally, from K-pop and K-dramas to fashion and beauty, fueling a surge of interest among younger travelers who want to experience these cultural touchpoints firsthand. Neighborhoods like Hongdae and Seongsu in Seoul, the coastal charm of Busan, and the natural landscapes of Jeju Island are drawing international attention as “must-visit” destinations.

Additionally, South Korea’s strategic investment in tourism infrastructure, visa flexibility, and global marketing campaigns is amplifying its appeal. Travelers are increasingly recognizing South Korea as a destination that blends tradition and innovation while offering authentic, immersive experiences—without the overwhelming crowds found in other major Asian hotspots.

Together, these factors are positioning South Korea as a rising global tourism powerhouse and one of the most compelling emerging travel trends of the year.

Lord Howe Island

Here’s why Lord Howe Island is trending — and why it’s capturing the hearts of travellers right now

Lord Howe Island is capturing the hearts of travellers because it offers a rare and pristine paradise unlike anywhere else. About 85% of the island is covered in native forest, and 70% is protected as a Permanent Park Preserve, meaning visitors can experience real wilderness, crystal-clear waters, coral reefs, and unique ecosystems. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, the island boasts dramatic volcanic peaks, lush cloud forests, and a wealth of endemic wildlife, from rare birds and seabird colonies to species found nowhere else on Earth, like the flightless woodhen.

Beyond its natural beauty, Lord Howe blends relaxed island vibes with adventure. Visitors can snorkel over vibrant reefs, hike Mount Gower or Mount Lidgbird for sweeping views, cycle along quiet roads, and enjoy tranquil beaches and lagoons—all without the crowds. Its commitment to sustainability and conservation, including a cap of roughly 400 tourists at any one time, makes it a low-impact, serene getaway that appeals to travellers seeking meaningful, responsible tourism.

Because of its remoteness, protected landscapes, and limited access, Lord Howe Island feels like an exclusive, “once-in-a-lifetime” escape. The combination of untouched natural beauty, wildlife encounters, outdoor adventure, and peaceful island life makes it one of Australia’s most desirable destinations and a trending spot for 2025.

Lodging on Lord Howe Island is highly limited, with an island-wide cap of around 400 guests at any one time, making booking well in advance essential. Luxury lodges and premium suites tend to fill first, especially during peak season, so if you have a fixed travel window, it’s wise to secure accommodation before booking flights. For those on a tighter budget, self-contained lodges or apartments provide good value, though amenities are simpler. The best choice depends on your travel style: romantic and indulgent stays are ideal at Capella Lodge or Bowker Beach House, relaxed and family-friendly trips suit Pinetrees Lodge, and budget-conscious, self-sufficient travellers may prefer apartments or self-catered lodges.
